RAINY DAYS WITH KIDS
Rainy days in Nagoya with kids: indoor outings and time at your holiday home
日本語English繁體中文한국어
Rain in the forecast need not mean filling the day with extra stops. Choose one indoor outing, then leave time to return to Maison Fleur Nagoya. Here are two options, the journeys to consider and a gentler way to spend the rest of the day together.
Choose one outing to match your child's interests
Consider the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium for sea life, or SCMAGLEV and Railway Park for trains. Both offer indoor exhibits, but walks from stations and car parks—and some viewing areas—remain outdoors.
Our suggestion is to choose one, with space for lunch, a change of clothes and the journey home. In heavy weather, check transport and venue updates before deciding whether to go out.
At the aquarium, make time for the tanks
The South Building includes the Kuroshio tank, a tunnel tank and penguin exhibits. Let your child linger at a favourite tank rather than planning every moment around shows. Check which exhibits and events are available on the day.
The North Building's third-floor stadium seating is covered but outdoors; Shiokaze Plaza is also outdoors. Choose according to the rain and wind, rather than assuming the whole visit is indoors.
The usual closing day is Monday, with exceptions such as the following day after a public-holiday Monday. Opening hours vary by season. Check the official calendar for your date.
Plan the whole journey to the aquarium
Our public-transport directions use Nakajima Station on the Aonami Line. It is about 1.7 km from the house; the usual walking guide of around 20 minutes is not a rainy-day estimate for small children.
One option is Nakajima–Nagoya, then the subway to Nagoyako. Check transfers in the official directions and compare current journey-planner options.
From Nagoyako Exit 3, the official walk is five minutes. There is no drop-off outside the aquarium; parking also involves walking. Bring rainwear.
- Choose how to get from the house to the station.
- Check transfers and your return journey.
- Allow for the outdoor walk at the destination.
SCMAGLEV and Railway Park: discovering trains together
Full-size railway vehicles and exhibits about superconducting maglev technology give train-loving children plenty to explore. Driving and conductor simulators have a separate charge and first-come access, so do not build the day around a guaranteed turn.
The N700 series is an outdoor exhibit. Focus on indoor displays when rain is heavy and decide on outdoor areas according to the weather.
From the house, travel to Nakajima Station and take the Aonami Line towards Kinjo-futo. The museum lists a walk of about two minutes from Kinjo-futo Station. It has no dedicated car park and directs drivers to nearby municipal parking.
The usual closing day is Tuesday, or the following day when Tuesday is a public holiday. It also closes from 28 December to 1 January. Check exceptions and opening hours for your visit.
Autumn 2026: temporary changes to check
As checked on 16 October, the port area's Port Building, Antarctic research ship Fuji and Port House are scheduled to be closed from 1 August to 30 November 2026. These are separate from the aquarium itself. Check current parking changes too if planning other port-area stops.
The Railway Park's railway diorama is scheduled to close for lighting works from 5 November to 7 December 2026. The period may change with the work, so check the latest notice if this exhibit is a priority.
Back at the house: kitchen time and a play break
Maison Fleur Nagoya is an 86 m², two-storey private holiday home. Bring groceries for a simple meal and talk about the day's discoveries around the dining table. The kitchen has cookware and tableware, including children's dishes and cutlery. Groceries and meals are not included.
The children's play area has pretend-shop toys. Build in playtime before or after an outing while adults take turns settling in. Please accompany young children on the indoor stairs.
Keep rainwear, spare socks and a bag for wet clothes together for an easier return. A washing machine is available; allow time for clothes to dry afterwards.
Keep a day flexible during a longer stay
With two nights or more, you may be able to move an indoor outing to a wet day and save outdoor plans for better weather. Before changing plans, check closing days and any tickets you have already bought.
Our minimum stay is two nights, with direct-booking arrivals at least four days ahead in Japan time. These ideas are for time within your booked stay, between check-in and check-out. Attraction tickets and transport are not included. Explore the house and availability to plan what works for your family.
